Colleagues, friends and family members of Gregory ‘Kallie’ Carelse gathered at St Georges Cathedral in Cape Town this morning to attend the memorial service of the late crime fighter.
The Western Cape department of community safety arranged the service for Carelse, whom many described as a hero.
The 56-year-old was allegedly gunned down by two men in Bishop Lavis at 17:45 on Thursday 18 October. One of the suspects was allegedly also shot and killed in the incident.
Minister of community safety in the Western Cape and incoming Cape Town mayor, Dan Plato, told TygerBurger Carelse contributed significantly to the department.
