The winemakers of the Durbanville Wine Valley presented a celebration of the depth, diversity and terroir-driven character of the valley’s red wines at the Taste of Terroir Red Wine Soirée last Friday evening at the Loch Lynne Wine Estate.

It marked a historic event when the Durbanville Wine Valley launched the limited-release collaborated pinotage wine, a 1,5 litre magnum bottle crafted by wine producers of the valley.

Here with the 1.5 litre magnum Durbanville Pinotage are (from left) Thys Louw (Maastricht), Tammy Claasen (Durbanville Hills), Keanu Eksteen (Klein Roosboom), Richard Schroeder (Groot Phesantekraal), Leana Coetzee (Diemersdal), Wade Roger-Lund (Meerendal), Elizabeth Meyer (D'Aria), Andrew Mellish (Mellish Family Wines) and Simeon Allers (De Grendel). New winery

Ten producers took part, including Nitida, Meerendal, Maastricht, De Grendel, Diemersdal, Durbanville Hills, Klein Roosboom, Groot Phesantekraal, D’Aria and Mellish, a new winery by the Mellish family who recently joined the Durbanville Wine Valley.

The wine commemorates three centenaries — the founding of pinotage when the first seeds were planted in 1925, the 100th celebration of Afrikaans as an official language and Durbanville’s own 200-year milestone.

The wine is available at all Durbanville tasting rooms and online at www.durbanvillewine.co.za.
