A presenter at Radio Eersterivier said he had recently had the best interview of his life with Gump Suzuki, a Japanese man who walked from Kenya to Cape Town.
He had walked the 6 000 km pulling a rickshaw through Africa.
Henry Prins, presenter of the Community Talk Show, said the interview inspired not only him, but most listeners. “Suzuki shared his extraordinary journey of walking the 6 000 kilometers from Kenya to Cape Town, pulling a rickshaw across Africa.
“His awe-inspiring adventure was filled with challenges, triumphs, and profound moments of connection with the diverse communities he encountered along the way.
“We encage in a captivating conversation about the motivation behind such an ambitious journey and the lessons learned during his months-long trek across the continent. Suzuki’s story of determination, perseverance, and the power of human connection left a lasting impact on listeners.”
African culture
During the interview Suzuki highlighted that the journey did not only test his physical limits but also gave him an even deeper appreciation for the people and cultures of Africa.
“In our community so many people struggle with social ills and hopelessness, and I am sure many people listening to Suzuki can get the strength to fight another day. I told myself that if this man can walk through Africa, then there is much more that I can do for myself.”
Suzuki became famous on social media after people spotted him on the N7 highway heading to Cape Town.
His following grew fast and soon supporters were waiting for him in towns along his journey, before he eventually arrived in Cape Town.
After going back to Japan he will tackle South America with his rickshaw.
