R30m worth of tik seized in Parow

“The vehicle, which came from Johannesburg, was destined for a warehouse in the area.”

Officers from the Parow visible police, along with border police and customs officials, arrested a 50-year-old suspect in possession of uncut tik during an operation in Parow Industria on Friday night, 2 March.

Provincial spokesperson, Brigadier Novela Potelwa, says the police stopped a truck and discovered 19 bags of suspected uncut tik stashed in two fridges inside the truck.

“The vehicle, which came from Johannesburg, was destined for a warehouse in the area.”

Potelwa says the consignment of tik weighing about 35kg, with an estimated value of R30 million, was sent for forensic analysis.

The suspect is due to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Monday 5 March on charges of dealing in drugs.

“The investigation continues and more arrests could follow. Western Cape provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, commended the vigilance of the members involved.”
