Barracudas Aquarama, one of Durbanville’s most prestigious swimming clubs, continues to make waves with a legacy spanning over 20 years, now boasting numerous awards, both locally and internationally.
At the Cape Town Aquatics A and B Championship, 33 of the Barracudas Aquarama’s swimmers participated, securing an impressive haul of 44 medals, including 19 gold, 16 silver, and 9 bronze.
To top it, some of their swimmers achieved 101 personal bests, placing the club among the top 10 out of 24 competing clubs. The club’s success continued at the Swartland Prestige Gala on Saturday 9 November, where 37 swimmers attended. They brought home 36 medals – 11 gold, 12 silver, and 23 bronze – and achieved 125 personal bests.
Barracudas Aquarama finished 4th out of 17 clubs, amassing 1 302 points.
Head Coach and Owner, Coenie van Graan, along with Coaches Judi Smith and Lusca Koch, have been instrumental in preparing the swimmers both physically and mentally.
Coach Coenie emphasises the importance of a combined effort, stating: “The coach is just one piece of the puzzle; the swimmer and their parents or guardians form the other pieces.”
Instilling values
The club’s philosophy is centered on helping children excel both inside and outside the pool. They focus on teaching life skills, building healthy self-esteem, and instilling the values of dedication, self-confidence and hard work. As Barracudas Aquarama prepares for the upcoming Western Cape Aquatics A and B Championship in December, the club remains committed to foster excellence in swimming and life.
