A premature baby’s body was found in a black bag under the railway bridge in Consani Road in Elsies River at 07:00 this morning, Monday 3 April.

According to Elsies River police spokesperson Captain Daphne O’Reilly, the baby was discovered by a general cleaner working at the railway station.

“He picked up the black bag and decided to open it as it felt heavy and found the baby wrapped in a brown towel inside the bag,” O’Reilly says.

She adds that the baby was fully formed but not full term and was not breathing.

O’Reilly says a concealment of birth docket was opened for investigation.
