Afrikaans Gospel singer, TV and radio personality, Pastor Ivan Siegelaar, passed away on Thursday (2 March) following a long battle with cancer.

According to a statement by Tygerberg 104fm, Siegelaar died at the age of 46 at Groote Schuur hospital.

Siegelaar was born in Cape Town on 3 August 1970, into a family of four of whom he was the youngest.

His singing talent was only discovered later in life while working at a local hospital.

He was sponsored to go for voice training and his incredible cross-over classical style opened the door for many singing engagements across the City.

In 2013, he experienced a break-through in his career when Barbara Streisand’s producers invited him to share the stage with her in Holland.

The performances received exceptional reviews, abroad and locally.

Siegelaar’s final contribution to the local Gospel music scene was a collaboration with fellow Gospel greats, Loyiso Bala and Neville D, which produced ‘Great Hymns of Faith’ on CD and DVD.
