A Parow religious leader accused of operating a Ponzi scheme worth millions of rand and who now faces charges of fraud, will be appearing in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court next week.
Pastor Colin Davids (39), the accused, will be back in the dock on Wednesday 18 January, says Captain Lloyd Ramovha, spokesperson for the Hawks.
Davids is currently out on R100 000 bail with strict conditions. He is charged with fraud and contravention of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act and Bank Act after his trading company, Platinum Forex, which is not registered with the financial services board, allegedly duped investors with promises of higher than normal returns on their investments.
Ramovha says investigations into this case are at an advanced stage and numerous “investors” have already deposed their affidavits.
“However, in the interest of justice, we appeal to those who have fallen victim of said scheme, to come forward in order to further bolster investigations. Victims’ cooperation will ensure that justice is served expeditiously to enable them to find closure sooner,” Ramovha says.
Victims are encouraged to contact Lieutenant Colonel Jerome Hardenberg on 082 850 9747 or e-mail him at HardenbergJ@saps.gov.za.
