An off-duty police officer, who was attacked by three men while walking in Goodwood on Wednesday evening, 28 February, shot and killed one of the suspects.
According to Goodwood police Colonel SA Mntambo, the incident happened around 21:00 in Dingle Road.
“One suspect jumped out of a grey Toyota bakkie and stabbed the officer twice in the back. The officer then took his duty pistol and shot the suspect twice.”
He says the 20-year-old suspect was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital.
“The other two suspects, aged 18 and 19, were later arrested when they returned to the scene,” Mntambo said.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring says paramedics were called to the scene at 21:20 by the local authorities.
“Upon arrival, paramedics found a man lying in the middle of the road. Assessments showed that the man had sustained a gunshot wound to his head, leaving him in a critical condition.”
He says treatment and advanced life support interventions were immediately initiated in an effort to stabilise the man’s condition.
Once treated, the man was transported to Tygerberg Hospital for further care where he later died.
