Police on Friday arrested three suspects in Brackenfell for possession of abalone.
Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut from the Western Cape SAPS says the vigilance of police members on patrol in Kiewiet Street Okavango Business Park, Brackenfell on Friday paid off.
Three suspects aged 27, 27, and 37 were arrested for the possession of a large quantity of abalone.
“The vehicle of the suspects raised suspicion and prompted SAPS members to investigate. This led to the discovery of 40 boxes of dried abalone, possibly destined for export,” says Traut.
The suspects will be appearing in the Blue Downs court this morning for the illegal possession of abalone.
Traut says the exact value of the abalone is yet to be determined.
On Tuesday last week six people we arrested for abalone smuggling in Brackenfell and Milnerton. Police said the value of the abalone is estimated at several million rand.
