Police issue warning over cellphone robberies

Table View police raise the alarm over cellphone robberies along Potsdam Road.

Table View police have issued a warning to residents to conceal all valuables when walking along the road.

This follows a robbery in Potsdam Road near the Killarney Race Track on Monday (17 April).

Police spokesperson, Captain Adrian Chandler, says shortly after 14:00 the victim was talking on his cellphone in Potsdam Road at the entrance of Killarney Race track. He was waiting for someone when a suspect approached him with a firearm, threatened the victim and demanded that he hand over his phone.

“Table View Police is issuing a warning to the community not to talk on their cellphones while stationary at any intersection.  The area at the traffic lights of Potsdam and Blaauwberg roads has shown an increase in the theft of cellphones, while owners are talking on them.  The suspect will grab the phone and run away,” she says.
