In an exciting and educational event, Kraaifontein police on Thursday hosted a safety awareness day for children, aimed at teaching them important lessons about safety and emergency preparedness.
One of the highlights of the day was the demonstration by the police K9 sniffer dog, Flyt, as he sniffed out live ammunition.
WO Louise Strydom from the Kraaifontein Police Station spoke to the children about “stranger danger” and the concept of my body is my property.
“We want the kids to understand the importance of safety. The sniffer dog demonstration is just one way we aim to educate them in a fun and engaging way. By showing them what we do, we can foster a sense of responsibility and awareness in them at an early age.”
Also present at the event was the City of Cape Town chief of fire and rescue services, Adam Damons, along with several local firefighters from Brackenfell Fire Station who gave the children a chance to explore the fire truck. The children were thrilled to climb aboard the fire truck, where they learned about the essential equipment firefighters use.
The firefighters also demonstrated how to properly use fire hoses, much to the excitement of the young audience.
The event proved to be an apt opportunity for the police and fire services to connect with, and educate the younger generation about the importance of safety in their everyday lives.
