Police have confiscated more than 100 firearms at a Kraaifontein arms dealership on Wednesday (25 January).
According to a report from provincial police, officers of the provincial Flash Unit conducted a compliance inspection in terms of the Firearms Control Act at a firearms dealership in Amadeus Road in Kraaifontein.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, says the investigation revealed there was non-compliance in terms of the Firearms Act and the Explosives Act and also that the responsible person of premises had passed away in December 2016.
“The premises were secured and a search and seizure warrant obtained at the Kuils River Magistrate’s Court was executed this morning at 11:00. Numerous items relating to the investigation were seized which include 169 firearms of various calibres, 1 130 rounds of ammunition, 3 650 primers for reloading, two ammunition reloading machines and two kilograms of Nitro Cellulose propellant.”
She further says an intensive investigation will be conducted and will be presented to the National Prosecuting Authority.
