On Friday (30 December) Manenberg police arrested a 35-year-old man for possession of firearms and ammunition.
As part of crime prevention operations in Manenberg, the Nyanga police cluster project team was deployed in the area to combat gang activity, and specifically focused on illegal firearms and drugs, says police spokesperson Captain Ian Bennett.
The man was arrested at 08:30 after police had received information about an illegal firearm at an address in Pecos Road.
“The members conducted a search of the premises and then
did a thorough search of the back part of premises, including digging up part
of an informal dwelling,” Bennett says.
The two firearms and ammunition they found, with serial numbers still
in place, had not been reported stolen, he says.
“The 35-year-old male is a known gang member and was arrested for the possession of firearm and ammunition and will be appearing in
court soon.”
Anyone with information on such activities can contact the Manenberg police on 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
