Parow police’s crime statistics puts it in Top 30

Parow Police Station recently featured among the national and provincial top-30 stations in a variety of crime categories. The statistics for the third quarter of the 2024-’25 financial year was released by minister Senzo Mchunu in Pretoria on Friday 21 February. The three-month period covers October 2024 to December 2024.

The various top-30 stations categories in which Parow Police Station features, include community-reported serious crimes; common robbery; robbery at residential premises; kidnapping; property-related crime; burglary at non-residential premises; theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles; theft out of, or from motor vehicles; commercial crime; drug related crime; driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; and sexual offences detected as a result of police action.

Statistics

According to the statistics 880 community-reported serious crimes were reported last year, 225 cases less than the previous year when 1 105 cases were reported.

A total of 74 common robbery cases were reported during October and December 2024 and the same number over the same period the year before.

Five cases of robbery at residential premises were reported over the three-month period last year, and six cases the same period the year before.

According to the statistics four kidnapping cases were reported over October to December, both in 2024 and 2023.

A total of 198 property-related crime cases were reported over the three months in 2024. Over the same period in 2023, a total of 296 cases were reported – 98 cases more.

A total of 15 burglary at non-residential premises cases were reported at the station in 2024 over the three months. The year before over the same period, 32 cases were reported at the station – 17 more cases.

According to the statistics 30 cases of theft of motor vehicles and motorcycles were reported to the police both in 2024 and 2023 over the same three-month period.

In 2024 for the three-month period, 106 cases of theft out of, or from motor vehicles were reported. The year before 142 cases were reported.

A total of 168 commercial crime cases were reported last year, two more than the year before over the same period.

In 2024 a total of 272 drug related crime cases were reported at Parow – 18 more cases than the previous year when 254 cases were reported.

Last year 34 driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs cases were reported between October and December.

The Parow Police Station recorded one case of a sexual offence detected as a result of police action during October and December.
