The spirit of innovation and competition came alive this past Saturday at the First Lego League regional competition where Parklands College secured a spot among the top six, earning them an invitation to the national event scheduled for 1 and 2 December.
The event, which saw the participation of 29 enthusiastic teams, each comprised of a maximum of 10 participants, showcased the talent and dedication of young minds in the field of robotics and technology.
Of the 29 competing teams, Parklands College managed to secure a coveted spot among the top six. “The results of their hard work and dedication are not only commendable but also incredibly exciting,” said Ellie Clews, the school’s social media coordinator.
“This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to the tireless efforts of the Parklands College team members, their mentors and all those who had supported them along the way.
The road to the top is never easy, but their perseverance and innovative thinking have truly set them apart.”
In addition to their overall performance the team also had the distinct honour of receiving the Innovative Project Award for their groundbreaking project “The Blind Box”. This revolutionary device bridges the accessibility gap for visually impaired individuals, particularly in the realm of experiencing the performing arts.
“It is an extraordinary fusion of cutting-edge technology and innovative design, a solution to a real-world problem with the potential to transform lives,” said Clews. “Its core objective is to offer a unique and immersive experience in the performing arts, breaking barriers down and opening doors to a world often out of reach. The team is preparing for the national event in December, representing not only their accomplishments but the promising future of robotics and technology.
