Firefighters are still working on extinguishing a large vegetation fire in Parklands which has been burning throughout the night.
Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson, Tracey Whittaker, says firefighters responded to the fire just before midnight on Sunday (26 February) in Sati Road.
In her latest update, she says the fire is still burning and is also entering the wetlands, hampering conventional firefighting methods and vehicles.
“The fire is being fanned by a strong south-easterly wind. Smoke and ash debris from the fire will affect the Parklands, Sunningdale, Table View, Duynefontein and Melkbos communities. There are seven firefighting vehicles on scene with 27 firefighters. The City of Cape Town Nature Conservation also has two teams assisting. The cause of fire is still undetermined at this stage.”
