Parklands College’s Hyperion Bots have once again proven their excellence in robotics, earning a coveted spot at the FTC World Festival. Competing against the nation’s best at the FTC South African Championship, Team 18011 showcased remarkable innovation, teamwork, and technical skill, securing their place on the global stage.

Hyperion Bots re-entered the FTC competition with a well-engineered robot, a refined strategy, and a determination to succeed.

Doing exceedingly well at regionals set them through to the South African Championship at Amazon.

“Throughout the qualification rounds, the team demonstrated remarkably swift teleoperated gameplay, placing them among the competition’s top contenders. During the elimination rounds, D.R.O.I.D.S. and Hyperion Bots formed a strategic alliance, which led them far, where they competed at the highest level of FTC competition in South Africa. Their innovative approach to game mechanics, combined with strategic gameplay, ultimately earned Hyperion Bots a well-deserved qualification to the FTC World Festival and achieved the second place Inspire Award,” says Ellie Clews, the school’s social media coordinator.

One of the most thrilling moments of the championship came when Hyperion Bots were alliance partners with Team Texpand, the World Champions Alliance from last season, to achieve a record-breaking score of 318 points. This remarkable feat set the South African high score for the season, demonstrating the team’s capability to compete at an elite level on the global stage.

With their qualification secured, Hyperion Bots now set their sights on the FTC World Festival, where they will compete against top teams from around the globe.

“As they prepare for this next challenge, the team will continue refining their robot, optimizing their strategies, and ensuring they are ready to represent South Africa at the highest level of FTC competition,” Clews says.
