Parel Vallei’s Another Loud Thursday was crownd the Band Battle winners.

The inaugural Band Battle rocked the northern suburbs on 27 June, showcasing the best of high school musical talent across the Western Cape.

The competition drew 24 entries from 13 schools, with finalists selected through a rigorous audition process judged by industry professionals including Mark Haze, Jurg Human and Francois van Coke.

After two rounds of auditions, the top-three bands took to the stage for a high-energy showdown in front of a packed audience.

They were:

1st Place: Another Loud Thursday from Parel Vallei High School in Somerset West (R10 000 cash prize and a live performance slot at the grand opening of Groot Phesantekraal Shopping Centre);

2nd Place: Maroon Mafia from Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch (R6 000 prize);

All three finalists will also have the opportunity to perform at the iconic Die Boer Theatre-Restaurant in Durbanville.

Francois van Coke, who also headlined the evening with his band Die Gevaar, praised the energy and originality of the young musicians. “It’s inspiring to see this level of talent and passion coming from our schools,” he said.

The Band Battle was part of Curro Durbanville’s newly launched Kultura Festival, a week-long celebration of the arts, culture, and community spirit.
