The Annual Miss Mitchell’s Plain Unbreakable Beauty Pageant reached a new milestone as founder Kayla Jenecker expanded the competition beyond its traditional format on Saturday 4 October.
This year, the pageant added three new categories: Mr, Mrs, and Golden Oldies, transforming the event into a celebration for all ages and genders.

The Golden Oldies category proved particularly special, featuring three contestants over 60 who are marathon runners belonging to Kayla’s running club, Mitchell’s Plain Titans AC.
“They traded in their takkies for heels on Saturday,” says Kayla.

Eighteen-year-old Ranshaw Opperman made history by becoming the first-ever Mr Mitchell’s Plain Unbreakable Winner, with Alex Claasen taking the 1st Prince title and Tholang Nkojoana claiming 2nd Prince. Tholang’s success reflected the pageant’s deep family roots. He was coached by Kayla’s mother, Barbara Jenecker, who has years of experience in the modelling industry.

Barbara herself was trained by Kayla’s grandmother, Avril Goldman, who was also in the modelling industry despite being hearing impaired.

The pageant operates as more than entertainment. Kayla, alongside her mother, Barbara Goldman Jenecker, and sister Celita Jenecker, runs the event through their registered non-profit company and anti-bullying campaign. All proceeds from the pageant fund school outreaches where they raise awareness against bullying.
The expanded format proved that the Miss Mitchell’s Plain Unbreakable Beauty Pageant truly lives up to its name — celebrating the unbreakable spirit of a community that embraces all ages, while making a difference in local schools.
