A 24-year-old woman died after being ejected from a vehicle that veered off the road and rolled on the N1 between Brighton Road and the Joostenbergvlakte turn-off in Kraaifontein over the weekend. Four others, of whom one was ejected onto the roof of a house, were injured in the accident.
In a separate incident, emergency services found an empty minibus-taxi wreck that had reportedly rolled on the corner of Old Paarl Road and Brackenfell Boulevard, with no occupants on the scene.
The first incident occurred around about midnight on Friday. Spokesperson for Titanium Securitas emergency services Kobus Kotze says all the occupants in the vehicle were ejected as the vehicle rolled off the highway multiple times.
“Emergency services responded within minutes in an effort to stabilise the patients, but tragically one person found next to the vehicle succumbed to injuries at the scene. Local authorities were present to conduct a full investigation into the cause of the accident,” he says.
In the second incident in the early hours of Saturday morning, emergency services received the call at about 05:30.
“The Titanium Securitas medical team immediately responded and proceeded to the given location. Upon arrival to assess the nature of the incident, they were met with an unexpected scene – the vehicle was present, but no occupants were found. The scene was subsequently handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation,” says Kotze. “It is suspected that it was only the driver in the vehicle that must have run off after the accident.”
