Oasis Special School in Belhar recently attended the Cape Town Kite Festival and submitted four kites for the event.
Anandi Spies, spokesperson for the school, says one of the learners, Fajash Daniels, wrote a beautiful and moving poem about mental resilience — expressing how he remains strong and hopeful after losing his father.
Thrilled
Another class created a kite that represented their determination not to let their special education needs stand in the way of their dreams. “We are thrilled to share that we came fourth in the competition. The learners had an amazing day, enjoying the colourful display of kites and being inspired by the touching stories of mental health and courage shared by other participants. They also had great fun flying kites, going on rides, and joining in the sports games,” says Spies.
Spies says they want to give a special thank you to the people from Edukite, who were kind and encouraging throughout the day. “Our learners even learned a new dance, which they thoroughly enjoyed. It was truly a day filled with joy, creativity, and courage — a celebration of hope taking flight,” she says.
