A 30-year-old man from the Eerste River area in the northern suburbs of Cape Town has been sent to three years’ direct imprisonment for stealing sausage.

James Langenhoven, who was charged with housebreaking, was convicted today (Wednesday 8 November) at the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court, the police say.

The sentence comes after he had broken into a house at midnight in the newly developed Nuwe Begin complex along Eerste River Way, Blue Downs, on Sunday 14 August, where he stole the sausage, Captain Nomathemba Muavha, Mfuleni police spokesperson, says.

It is still unclear what type of sausage he took.

“The police traced him soon after the owner of the house called them.

“She informed them she had heard a sound in her house. She went to have a look when she saw someone in her house – who subsequently ran away with the sausage,” Muavha says.

The police say they welcome the sentence.
