A young boy from Parow North has been crowned a South African (SA) Champion at a kickboxing tournament held in Gauteng this past weekend.

Zidaan Hadaya Jacobs (9) is a Grade 3 learner at Parow North Primary School who competed in the Ring Contact Fighting Arts (RCFA) Kickboxing SA Nationals/Jungle Wars. The event was held last weekend from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 October at the Emerald Casino in Johannesburg.

His proud mother, Raabia, says he officially became the SA Champion at the competition and now has his eye set on the big World Championship next year.

Jacobs says as Zidaan already has Western Province (WP) colours, he represented the WP in the semi-contact low kicks (7-9 years and 25-29,9kg ) division. He placed first and this now makes him SA Champ in his division, she explains.

“Due to his new title, he will now be representing South Africa proudly in his green and gold at the RCFA World Championships in April next year. The world championships usually take place abroad, however, they bring the competition to South Africa every 10 years. Next year the World Championship will take place at the Emerald Casino,” she says.

Including Zidaan, we had seven students in total from Go For Broke MMA, Parow, representing WP at the SA Championships. Five out of the seven students became SA Champions, says Raabia.

All five of the Parow students will be representing South Africa at the World Championships next year.
