Nine policemen attached to the public-order policing unit in Faure were injured, two of them seriously, on Monday morning when the police vehicle, a Nyala they were travelling in, overturned on the N1 near the Okavango bridge in the direction of Paarl.
The accident occurred during peak-hour traffic.
According to information received by TygerBurger, the accident was caused by the Nyala suddenly braking, the reason unknown at this stage. According to a bystander ammunition lay scattered on the road surface.
The injured were treated on the scene and transported to a nearby hospital. Those seriously injured were airlifted. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened at Kraaifontein Police Station for investigation, according to provincial police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk.
