Residents have until 14 September to make comments or objections about the 250-flat social
housing complex in Ruwari, planned to be completed in the next financial year.
Mountain Views Rental Estate with Hope Centre, as it is to
be named according to a concept plan, will primarily target people earning
between R1500 and R5500 (30%) per month and those earning between R5500 and
R15 000 (70%).
Rentals will range between R800 and R3600 per month.
According to a presentation by section 21 social housing
company Madulammoho, the estate will include a social assistance centre (Hope
Centre), that will assist poor people in the Brackenfell area.
The City of Cape Town is selling the 11 334m2 land to
Madulammoho at a discounted price of R3.3m, which is an estimated 10% of the
current market value.
“This project will satisfy the great need for affordable
housing in Brackenfell. There are many families in Brackenfell, including
single mothers and elderly couples, who cannot afford the current market prices
in the area,” says ward councillor Marian Nieuwoudt.
