N1 highway to be closed temporarily

The provincial transport department has advised of road closures as roadworks continue on the N1 (next to the northern suburbs of Cape Town) .


The N1 highway (next to the northern suburbs of Cape Town) will be temporarily closed on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 January between the R300 and Durban Road.

According to a notice issued by the provincial transport and public works department, this will be done as workers are set to remove the overhead sign gantries from 19:00 on Saturday until 08:00 on Sunday.

Department spokesperson, Byron La Hoe, says this is part of the project to extend the third lane on the N1 from west of Durban Road to beyond the Old Oak Interchange.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and ask motorists for their patience in the interest of providing better, safer roads for all.”

Traffic will be diverted as follows:

Inbound carriageway:

  • Exit N1 on Exit 28-M100 Brackenfell West
  • Turn right at the traffic signals onto Brackenfell Boulevard
  • Turn right onto Frans Conradie Drive
  • Turn right onto Old Oak Road
  • Turn right onto Durban Road
  • Turn right onto the Durban Road inbound on-ramp

Kuils River Road (R300) inbound

  • Exit R300 on exit 29 –R101 towards Brackenfell
  • Turn left at the traffic signals onto Old Paarl Road
  • Turn right onto Bill Bezuidenhout Avenue
  • Turn left onto Durban Road
  • Turn right onto the Durban Road inbound on-ramp
