More than half a million rand of Ford Ranger products seized by Hawks in Brackenfell

The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team seized counterfeit goods in Brackenfell on Wednesday (23 November).


Counterfeit Ford Ranger products of more than half a million rand was seized by the Hawks’ serious commercial crime investigation (SCCI) unit during raids at two Brackenfell warehouses yesterday morning.

The joint operation was carried out by the Hawks in conjunction with representatives from Spoor & Fisher at 09:00.

According to Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani the team found and confiscated tonnes of counterfeit products to the value of R552 000.

No arrests have been made as yet.

 “The illicit trade is a contravention of the Counterfeit Goods Act and Intellectual Property Rights Act. The evidence was placed in a storage facility as the investigation continues,” says Hani.

In a statement to the media, provincial head of the Hawks in the Western Cape, Maj Gen Mathipa Makgato said counterfeit products have a negative impact on the economy.

“As law enforcement agencies, will continue to work with our partners to take action against those who sell it,” he said.
