The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services had to rush to Dunoon near Table View early on Tuesday morning following reports of shacks on fire in the area.
Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson, Theo Layne, told TygerBurger that they responded to fires in Usasaza Road in Dunoon at 05:30.
“Approximately 100 informal structures were destroyed, leaving more than 500 people displaced,” he said.
No injuries were reported, however.
According to Layne, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
He said seven fire engines and three water tankers in total, with approximately 42 firefighters from seven different fire stations, responded to the scene.
“The fire is now extinguished,” Layne said at 10:43.
