Two people were shot and killed, while several others sustained injuries, in a mass shooting in Montrose Park during the early hours of Saturday morning.
Gang links suspected
Michael Jacobs, chair of the Lentegeur Community Police Forum (CPF), said the attack appears to be gang related, as one of the deceased is believed to have alleged gang links.
“The CPF strongly condemns the shooting incident,” Jacobs said. “We cannot allow the community of Montrose Park to be held hostage through targeted shootings, intimidation and acts of arson.”
Call for law enforcement action
Jacobs urged the South African Police Service (SAPS) and other law enforcement agencies to act swiftly. “We call on them to quickly apprehend the suspects and bring stability to our area,” he added.
Community urged to provide information
Residents are being asked to come forward with any information that could help the investigation. “We call on our community to provide relevant information to the case by contacting the station commander of Lentegeur SAPS,” Jacobs said.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are appealing to anyone with knowledge of the incident to step forward
