Police and the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) have succeeded in removing two child rapists from Mitchells Plain, with each receiving at least 25 years for two unrelated cases.
On Monday 3 June, Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court handed down sentences of at least 25 years to two rape accused for crimes committed against then 13-year-old girls.
Both men were involved with the girls’ mothers.
says Mitchells Plain Police station commander Brig Mark Hartzenberg.
Investigators and officers attached to the Mitchells Plain family violence, child protection and sexual offences (FCS) unit registered the cases in 2020 and 2021.
In the first incident, a 13-year-old girl was raped by her mother’s boyfriend during the month of October 2019. The suspect, a 61-year-old man, was living with them at their home in Tafelsig at the time of the incident.
The accused was found guilty on three charges of rape and received a sentence of three life sentences to run concurrently.
In a second unrelated case, a 13-year-old girl was raped on several occasions by her stepfather in Rocklands during 2021. The 59-year-old man was sentenced on two charges of rape. He received 20 years on charge one and 25 years on charge two.
