Police seized an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in the Milnerton area.

Swift action by the Milnerton Crime Prevention Unit led to the arrest of four suspects, aged 27, 29, 47 and 53, for extortion and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Police responded to a complaint of an extortion underway in Platinum Street, Milnerton on Monday 15 September. They arrived as a vehicle was pulling away, which they stopped and searched, and saw four men matching the description of the suspects and recovered a 9 mm Norinco pistol was recovered along with one 9 mm live round and one blank round.

According to Capt Frederick C van Wyk further investigation revealed the firearm belonged to a resident of Quluqhu in Ngcobo, Eastern Cape.

“The firearm had not been reported stolen, and a case of negligent loss will be opened against the owner. The suspects are expected to appear in Cape Town Magistrates’ Court once formally charged.”
