A new group of peacekeepers have been introduced in Ward 5 which includes Bothasig, Edgemead, Richwood and Burgundy Estate.

Brand new Metro Police Neighbourhood Safety Officers (NSO) were introduced to the ward at the end of September with the aim of keeping the area safe.

The NSO’s are ready to go out and assist with any issues that arise like bylaw contraventions and safety and security issues, ward councillor Miquette Temlett said in a video she posted and shared with the community.

Residents can contact the officers by calling 021 480 7700 to report issues like public disorder, use of drugs, vagrancy, or traffic violations directly to the the NSO’s. Residents will then receive a reference number so that the matter can be tracked by the City of Cape Town.

Temlett said Metro Police NSO’s have been deployed into all wards and that this step is a major boost for safety, law enforcement, and keeping their neighbourhoods crime free.

On Monday 13 October Temlett conducted a walkabout through the ward with the NSO’s where she had a chance to visit problem areas and hotspots, and discussed practical safety and service delivery concerns on the ground. “These walkabouts are a vital part of keeping our communities safe, clean and well-maintained. They help to ensure that issues are picked up early, reported correctly and followed through,” she wrote on her community Facebook page.

A community stakeholder meeting was also held on Tuesday 14 October to introduce the NSO team. Sgt Reagan Philander is the supervisor of the team.
