Officers arrest 51-year-old in Table View after spotting suspicious vehicle.

A routine patrol in Table View on Wednesday afternoon (3 December) led to the swift arrest of a 51-year-old man, after metro-police officers had spotted a suspicious-looking vehicle moving through the area. They immediately alerted colleagues in two unmarked metro-police vehicles to assist.

According to Table View police spokesperson Capt Adriana Chandler the officers’ vigilance paid off.

“During their patrols in the Table View area on the afternoon of Wednesday 3 December metro police officers spotted a suspicious-looking vehicle driving in the area. The officers held observation and decided to call for colleagues driving two unmarked metro police vehicles.”

The officers continued tracking the vehicle until the driver was seen engaging in what appeared to be an illegal transaction.

Large amount of cash and multiple drugs recovered

Chandler confirmed officers had reasonable cause to approach the suspect and conduct a search of both his vehicle and him.

“During the search the officers found a large amount of cash and various types of illegal substances, such as crystal methamphetamine (tik), cannabis (dagga) and Mandrax,” she said.

The suspect was arrested on charges of dealing in drugs and was expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Friday 5 December.

Station commander Col Thambelani Mahlatshana commended the officers involved in the arrest and praised their proactive approach.

He applauded them for acting on their instinct, which led to the swift arrest.
