he City of Cape Town is gearing-up for a transformative year, as it prepares to table the Draft Budget for 2025-’26, placing a record-breaking investment in safety and security.

Police are on the hunt for a gunman who opened fire on two Metro Police officers in Hanover Park this morning.

According to Mitchell’s Plain cluster spokesperson, Captain Lance Goliath, the two officers were responding to a shooting when one man opened fire on the officers in Athwood Road.

“One of the officers was injured and was taken to Gatesville Medical Centre for treatment. He is currently in a stable condition. The other officer was not harmed in the shooting.”

Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith, says the officer was shot in the left side of his stomach and has a flesh wound on his right hand. He says the officer is about to undergo an operation as the bullet did not exit his body.

At this stage no arrests have been made and police are calling on the public to help provide information on the identity of the shooter.
