Meet Jackie Coetzer, who joined Community Medics in 2022, just a few months after losing her husband.
By day, Jackie is a full-time Computer Applications Technology (CAT) teacher at Table View High School.
As the head of first aid at the school, she’s always on the side-lines of every sports practice and match, along with an enthusiastic and passionate group of learners, who are all qualified with at least a Level 1 First Aid qualification.
With four boys, who were always getting themselves into pickles, Jackie spent a lot of time at the doctor’s office, which sparked her passion for helping people. When she’s not teaching or volunteering, she loves doing Diamond Dots.
Now that her sons are grown, her three cats have taken centre stage, bringing joy to her days when she returns home from school.
“The Community Medics volunteers were so supportive during last months of her husband’s death that she really felt the need to give back.
“What better way to fill the now empty hours than serving your community? She started out doing dispatch taking the emergency calls but, by August 2022, she’d joined the first responders as well,” says Craig van Essen from Community Medics.
As a nonprofit, Community Medics depends on donations, debit orders, and sponsorships to sustain their lifesaving work.
“If you would like to help Jackie and the other Community Medics volunteers continue their life-saving work in our communities, a sponsorship, either one-time or recurring, would help ensure this and be much appreciated.”
