A revamped and expanded emergency centre was officially opened last week at Mediclinic Cape Gate, marking a significant upgrade in the hospital’s facilities. A new general ward on the second floor was also launched, adding 16 beds and bringing the hospital’s total capacity to 184 beds. In addition a third operating theatre was added in the hospital’s day clinic.

At the opening ceremony at the hospital on Wednesday evening, newly appointed chief executive officer of Mediclinic Southern Africa, Braam Joubert, presided over the opening ceremony held at the hospital on Wednesday evening, along with a tour of the new facilities.

The emergency centre saw a complete refurbishment of the reception, waiting area and public bathrooms. A new observation room with four recliner chairs were added; along with a quiet room and two additional treatment beds bringing the total treatment beds in the emergency centre to 12, including a procedure room, paediatric room and two resuscitation beds.

Speaking at the reception Joubert congratulated the management team of the hospital and paid tribute to the team of specialists who provide patient care.

Meeting demand

“With the opening of the new facilities we celebrate the investment and efforts made to ensure Mediclinic Cape Gate continues to expand to meet demand and adapt to new areas of need across the northern suburbs of Cape Town. We celebrate the expansion of the medical unit and the upgrade to the exceptionally busy emergency centre,” he said.

Sharing in the celebration was the hospital general manager, Jeanine Visser, who joined the facility 18 months ago. Visser brought a wealth of experience with over 33 years of healthcare experience with the company, 10 years in the role of hospital general manager.

“I am extremely privileged to be serving at a hospital in my own community. My vision for Mediclinic Cape Gate is to remain the hospital of choice in the northern suburbs of Cape Town,” she says.

Ward councillor Rhynardt Bresler attended the ceremony and later shared his thoughts with TygerBurger.

“It was very reassuring to see that the hospital has a clear vision for growth in a rapidly developing area. As the far northern suburbs continue to expand, the demand for medical facilities will only increase,” he said.
