Following a security breach, during which a break-in at an office near the children’s ward at Mediclinic Cape Gate occurred on 24 May, the hospital said it has taken extra security measures to ensure unoccupied areas of the hospital are closely monitored.
According to the hospital group’s spokesperson Leigh Thomas, the incident in which a computer box and screen were stolen occurred at 02:30, when a window of a manager’s office was forced open and broken to gain access.
“As our managers work a standard office week from Monday to Friday, the office was unoccupied at the time of the incident,” she said.
Due to security protocol Thomas couldn’t disclose the specifics of hospital security protocols, as requested by TygerBurger.
“Our primary concern is the safety and security of our patients and staff, and providing detailed information could pose a future security risk,” she said.

Two suspects were apprehended by officers from Titanium Securitas the following day during crime-prevention patrols.
Officers had come across them under the Okavango Bridge near the shopping centre.
“As officers approached them one made a run for it, but was chased down by an officer who brought him back to the location to question him about his actions,” Titanium spokesperson Kobus Kotze related. “Officers proceeded to do a search of the immediate area and found a computer box and screen labelled ‘Mediclinic’.”
He said both suspects were force-marched to the nearby hospital, which advised them it was pressing charges for the break-in.
