Milnerton police conducted a search operation in Joe Slovo
Park this morning, following a shooting incident in the area early Tuesday
morning.
Armed gunmen opened fire on Tuesday at the taxi rank in
Freedom Way injuring seven people. One person who sustained critical injuries
has since passed away, police have confirmed.
Today, police spokesperson, Captain Nopaya Madyibi said
Milnerton police and a back-up team from neighbouring stations and the City of
Cape Town’s Law Enforcement units cordoned off the area during the search
operation.
Two firearms with live ammunition and a fake firearm were
recovered during the operation which lasted several hours. Police also managed
to arrest one suspect for possession of drugs.
A total of 12 minibus taxis were impounded and traffic fines
issued, Madyibi said.
