More than 500 people attended a mass prayer service for peace and progress in the Bonteheuwel area.

The service, held at the church of the Nazarene, was attended by residents from different denominations.

Faith, unity, hope

Local ward councillor Angus McKenzie, who spoke at the event, said the people of Bonteheuwel came together in a powerful display of faith, unity and hope.

“The service was called to pray for an end to gang violence, to give thanks for the significant decline in gang-related murders in the area and intercede for other communities still plagued by violence.

“Bonteheuwel’s foundation of success has always been built on prayer, and its future will be secured through the same unwavering faith. Seeing so many people respond to the call to prayer tonight reminds me that God has truly positioned Bonteheuwel to be a place of light and transformation.

“This gathering was not just a service, but a statement. While others complain and tear down we choose to build up and pray, not just for Bonteheuwel, but beyond too. The event was a moving testimony to what is possible when a community stands united in faith, proving once again that Bonteheuwel is not defined by its challenges, but by its courage and trust in God.”

Powerful tool

Pastor Mike Seal, one of the church leaders at the event, said prayer is a powerful tool. “Once again Bonteheuwel experienced a beautiful sense of togetherness in the Presence of God on Sunday afternoon. Thanks to all who attended, especially our NHW members, CPF and SUBFORUM members. What we envisage right from the start, to bring our community and spiritual leaders together to pray for Bonteheuwel. It was a great success. We should do this more often.”
