A whopping 182 kilogrammes of waste was collected at the Milnerton Lagoon on Earth Day (Saturday 22 April).

Save a Fishie and volunteers braved the cold and rain to help rid the ocean of waste and commemorate Earth Day.

“Heading to the beach and seeing the weather . . . I thought we’d have nobody coming out but I am so, so thankful and proud of my amazing volunteers to help us clean Milnerton Beach and celebrate Earth Day,” says Zoë Prinsloo from Save a Fishie.

The organisation has been cleaning the beach for years.

The clean-up was in collaboration with Pick n Pay People n Planet, Blue Ribbon Bread, Zero waste foundation and Polyco.

Members of Cape West Girl Guides SA, Milnerton Lions Club together with some of their Leos, learners from Edgemead High School Interact Club and regular volunteers showed up in numbers.

“Thanks to Pick n Pay for supplying amazing goodie bags for all our volunteers, including boerie rolls, jungle bars, water, and their new awesome pencil cases made from recycled bottles . . . all packed into their recycled reusable shopping bags. Thanks to Blue Ribbon for their yummy Squares.”
