A 23-year-old man from Bellville South was shot dead on Sunday morning in Elsies River.
Elsies River police spokesperson, Captain Daphne O’Reilly, says the man was standing outside his friend’s house in Jersey Street, Balvenie, when he was shot six times.
“According to 23-year-old Cheslyn Luyt’s friend, Luyt was standing at his residence calling for him (the friend) when an unknown male suspect approached him and they had an argument,” she says.
“The suspect then took out a firearm, shot Luyt six times and ran away.”
O’Reilly says Luyt sustained four gunshot wounds to the back and two to the neck.
Luyt died on the scene as a result of his injuries.
“Five cartridges and one projectile were found on the scene. According to information, the victim was not a member of any gang.”
O’Reilley says a murder docket has been opened for investigation. The motive is still unknown.
No arrests have been made.
