Crime watch groups reported two deadly shooting incidents this weekend but police have only confirmed one.
On Sunday 10 August, a Mitchell’s Plain crime watch WhatsApp group reported that a man had been shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting in Botha Street, Eastridge.
According to the post there were no services at the scene but Mitchell’s Plain Police Station commander Brig Brian Muller confirmed that his officers had investigated.
Early on Monday morning the group reported a second shooting, this time in Tafelsig.
“Shots fired in Benfica Road, Tafelsig, Freedom Park,” the post said. “Someone was shot.”
Muller confirmed that a man had been killed in the shooting.
“One male was shot multiple times by unknown assailants. He succumbed to his injuries on the scene,” Muller said.
