A 41-year-old man was arrested in Epping by the Copperheads
on charges of suspected stolen property this morning.
According to Law Enforcement inspector, Wayne Dyason, the
team received an anonymous tip-off of a white bakkie with possible a stolen
cable at a scrap yard in the area.
“On arrival at the scene, the officers observed the bakkie
matching the description given in the tip-off,” he says.
“The driver was busy selling the cable to the dealer.
Further investigations revealed that it was a copper cable belonging to the
City of Cape Town and it is used in the distribution of electricity to
consumers.”
The man, from Mitchell’s Plain, was taken to Elsies River
Police Station and it was he had previously been arrested for a similar
incident.
“The 17 millimeter overhead copper cable with an estimated
weight of 333kg and to the value of about R70 000 was booked in at the station
and the bakkie which was used in the commission of the crime was also
impounded,” Dyason further explains.
He will appear at the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court soon.
