Residents of Bonteheuwel say they are concerned and embarrassed by the fact that the case of a mother who allegedly sold pictures of her naked child on the dark web has again been postponed.

The mother was arrested in 2021 by the American Federal Bureau of Investigation and charged with manufacturing of child pornography, possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography and financial gain from child pornography and rape.

The Magistrates’ Court in Parow last week postponed the case to 7 June for further consultation.

Local councillor Angus McKenzie says it is hugely concerning, worrying and most certainly embarrassing that this matter has been allowed to stretch out this long.

“With no formal trial date agreed upon after more than a year and a half we can all agree now that justice delayed is justice denied. Our government is not serious about gender based violence. If they were we would see more prosecutions and stiffer sentences, but sadly we are seeing the exact opposite. Little to no prosecutions and even less meaningful sentences and that’s even if the case makes it to trial,” says McKenzie.

McKenzie says the community has begged and pleaded but has received nothing in return.

TygerBurger sent questions to Eric Ntabazalila from the National Prosecuting Authority asking why the case has again been postponed, but at the time of publishing he had not responded.
