Elsies River police are investigating a double murder case
after two men, believed to have been gangsters, were gunned down in 16th Avenue
in Leonsdale on Monday 3 September.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Daphne O’Reilly,
the duo were standing on the corner of 16th Avenue when a blue Ford Bantam
bakkie approached them.
“The occupants of the bakkie started shooting at the
victims as they drove past. Twenty-year-old Clinton Stevens died on the scene
as a result of his injuries. Martinus Galant (23) ran to a nearby house where
he fell and passed away.”
O’Reilly said both deceased belonged to the Terrible gang
group and had returned from a trip to Ladysmith on Sunday 2 September.
“Thirteen cartridges were found on the scene. The
motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage.”
A double murder docket was opened for investigation.
