The legendary 99er Cycle Tour is back and ready to challenge and inspire cyclists on Saturday 8 February next year.
As one of the Western Cape’s most cherished cycling events, the 99er has been a staple on the cycling calendar for over two decades. Known for its breath-taking routes and strong community spirit, it draws riders from across the Western Cape, offering something for cyclists of all skill levels.
Variety of routes
This year’s event features a variety of routes, including a 45 km route for beginners, a new 76 km middle-distance option, and the classic 95 km route for more experienced cyclists. For those seeking a bit more adventure, the new 80 km Trilogy Gravel route will take riders through the scenic Durbanville Wine Valley, combining gravel paths with some thrilling single-track sections.
Organised by El Shaddai Christian School, the 99er serves as the school’s main fundraiser. As a registered non-profit organisation, the event helps support various community initiatives, including the Bless a Baby project and providing bursaries for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Seeding event
Not only is the 99er an exciting race, but the 95 km and 80 km gravel routes also serve as official seeding events for the prestigious Cape Town Cycle Tour. This provides a fantastic opportunity for cyclists to improve their seeding and start position for one of the country’s most iconic races.
Early bird entries opened on 25 October and close on 30 November. Theo Joubert, chairman of the 99er Cycle Tour, encourages cyclists to take advantage of these special rates. “We are also pleased to announce that we’ve locked in entry fees at 2024 rates, offering much-needed relief in these challenging economic times.”
