Residents are invited to the open day on review of the City of Cape Town’ Growth Management Strategy for Blaauwberg Road on Saturday 16 September from 10:00 to 14:00 at the Leibrandt van Niekerk Hall.

The City of Cape Town is busy preparing a local spatial development framework (LSDF) for the Blaauwberg Road Corridor in Table View. The first step in this process is the review of the 1998 Blaauwberg Road Growth Management Strategy.

Residents and interested and affected parties are invited to attend the open day where City officials can answer questions and receive comments.

The City says there will be interactive sessions where attendees can learn about the process, engage with the content of the discussion document, meet the project team and give ideas and suggestions.

Blaauwberg Road

Blaauwberg Road is an important transport route, the City says, and covers a distance of approximately 5 km from Marine Circle in the west to the intersection with Koeberg Road in the east. The corridor is underdeveloped in scale and potential, and offers an opportunity for urban regeneration, the City says.

The City’s Urban Planning and Design Department has reviewed the existing Blaauwberg Road Growth Management Strategy of 1998. This document is available for public comment until 8 October, and will be used in the drafting of an LSDF to address the corridor’s current and future spatial development needs.

The City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayco member for spatial planning and environment, Eddie Andrews encourages everyone to get involved and submit comments.

“Our ultimate goal is to formulate a future spatial vision for this corridor to guide public and private developments that will strengthen the local economy, and promote and protect the area as a quality tourist destination at the Marine Circle end in particular,” he says.
