Bevan Abrahams performed two days in a row with the bat.

The Bishop Lavis Cricket Club enjoyed a very successful weekend with the first team celebrating victories over Avondale and Kuils River in the WPCA First Division B and AMA20 competitions respectively.

On Saturday, after winning the toss, they opted to bat first and got off to a good start with an opening stand of 105 runs between Bevan Abrahams (56) and Neo Petersen (43).

Emilo Keoberg (55 runs) was involved in partnerships with Simeon Fondling and other lower order batsmen, kept the scoreboard ticking over and the men from Bishop Lavis managed to finish on a very competitive score of 250/7.

For Avondale, Hilton Botha was the most successful bowler with figures of 2/22 in his four overs.

In reply, the visitors could only manage 167/9 with Tevin Abrahams (30) and Zinidene Japhta (41) the best with the bat for the team from Athlone.

Vaughn Koeberg, Cheslyn Roberts and Mikhail Isaacs each took two wickets making it difficult for the visitors to put up any resistance to a fielding unit that show good promise for the remainder of the season.

Abrahams again

On Sunday, Lavis continued with their winning ways by beating Kuils River Cricket Club by 6 runs during an AMA20 fixture which put the home team in the competition’s semi final. Bevan Abrahams again was the hero of the Lavis batting innings, scoring 61 off 53 balls. His opening partner, Natheer Rodgers contributed with 24 runs, ensuring an opening stand of 59 runs. On the day, Jerwaan Goosen was the best of the Lavis bowlers with 3/22.

The club’s second team also secured a 5 wicket bonus point win over Cape Town Cricket Club in a Reserve G fixture. Shaun James with 44 runs was the best with the bat whilst Antonio Bagley bagged 3 wickets for only 17 runs for the visitors from Bishop Lavis.

The Lavis boys will travel to Kuils River coming Saturday where they expect a tough and competitive fixture.
