South African music icons Ladysmith Black Mambazo will mark their 65th anniversary with a series of live performances at Artscape from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 October. The Grammy Award-winning group brings their distinctive vocal harmonies and rich musical legacy back to Cape Town as part of a national tour.
Known for their unique blend of isicathamiya and traditional Zulu musical styles, Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s performances are characterised by powerful a cappella harmonies and themes of peace, unity, and cultural pride.
The concert series will feature a mix of classic songs and new arrangements, offering audiences an opportunity to experience both the group’s early work and their continued musical evolution.

Talent development
Joining them on stage will be Abantakwethu, a Gugulethu-based cultural music group discovered through Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s talent development initiative. Their inclusion highlights the group’s ongoing commitment to mentoring young performers and promoting South African musical traditions.
The group last performed at Artscape in 2023 to sold-out audiences, and anticipation is high for their return. Their influence extends far beyond South Africa, with a history of collaborations that includes Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Dolly Parton, and Michael Jackson, among others.
African export
Formed in 1960 by Joseph Shabalala, Ladysmith Black Mambazo has become one of the continent’s most internationally recognised and awarded music groups, with five Grammy Awards and numerous accolades for their contribution to global music culture.
This concert series offers an opportunity to reflect on 65 years of music that has shaped and celebrated South African identity, and continues to resonate with audiences at home and abroad.
Performances will take place on Friday and Saturday at 19:00, and Sunday at 15:00.
